George Washington lives in Detroit and has been a labor and civil rights attorney for 38 years. He graduated from Harvard College in 1969 and from Harvard Law School in 1973. He is one of the founders of Scheff &Washington, P.C.
Washington has long represented the UAW, AFSCME, the Teamsters, and various independent unions in lawsuits, arbitrations, unfair labor practice hearings and court cases challenging numerous illegal and unconstitutional attacks upon unions and employees.
Washington has also represented many individual plaintiffs who have been victimized by discriminatory and unjust firings, by sexual and racial harassment, and by police brutality.
Washington has won cases in Michigan, Massachusetts and California and has been counsel of record in 75 appellate decisions.
Washington is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts of Michigan and Massachusetts and in the First, Sixth and Ninth Circuit Courts of Appeals and in the United States Supreme Court.
