The labor movement won protection for the right to form, join and assist unions and to bargain with management in the 1930s. In the 1960s, Michigan extended those rights to public employees. But in recent years, those rights, like so many others, have been under sustained attack.
In Detroit, Flint and throughout southeastern Michigan, the firm represents AFSCME, Teamster and UAW locals, independent unions and individual workers. We won over $4,000,000 in back pay for one local and have won numerous arbitrations, unfair labor practice charges and court actions. The firm has also represented teachers in tenure and other proceedings and nurses in licensing proceedings. We won an injunction that stopped the firing of two teacher activists and then won $300,000 to compensate them for their mental pain and suffering, even though they had not lost a single day’s pay.
